TUNESHARE Frequently Asked Questions

What is TUNESHARE?

TUNESHARE is a free Spotify playlist submission exchange platform with invitation-only membership for independent electronic music creators. Members support each other by listening to the official TUNESHARE PLAYLISTS, earning TAP through eligible listening and building capacity for their own tracks. There is no paid promotion, purchased placement or participation fee.

How do I join?

TUNESHARE is invitation-only and does not offer open registration. Applications are now open. Submit your Spotify artist profile and one representative track through the APPLY form. Applications are reviewed manually and do not guarantee an invitation or track placement.

What genres do you accept?

Electronic music only: electro, house, EDM, techno, glitch, IDM, ambient, downtempo, synthwave, synthpop, cinematic electronica, experimental electronic and synth-ambient. Applications are reviewed for suitability, and tracks must fit the selected playlist so the TUNESHARE PLAYLISTS stay coherent.

What happens if my application isn’t approved?

Applications are reviewed manually. We’ll contact you if your application is accepted. Submitting an application does not guarantee an invitation or track placement.

What is TAP?

TAP stands for TUNESHARE ACTIVITY POINTS. TUNESHARE reads scrobbles reported by Last.fm. Last.fm normally scrobbles a track after half of it has played or after four minutes, whichever comes first.

A scrobble can earn TAP only when it matches exactly one published, registered TUNESHARE track and the track is not your own. A registered track remains eligible even when it is not currently in an official TUNESHARE playlist; all other TAP rules still apply.

  • Weekly TAP (WTAP) is finalized after each Monday–Sunday week and sets track capacity for the following week.
  • Lifetime TAP (LTAP) is the total TAP added from finalized weeks and does not reset.

For example, 50–99 finalized Weekly TAP gives a capacity of one track for the following week, while 200–299 gives a capacity of three tracks.

How does listening get verified?

Listening is verified through Last.fm scrobbles. In Last.fm, open Settings → Applications and connect Spotify Scrobbling, then save your Last.fm username in your TUNESHARE account. TUNESHARE periodically reads completed scrobbles from Last.fm. A scrobble can earn TAP only if it matches exactly one published, registered TUNESHARE track and passes the TAP rules. Current playlist placement is not required for a registered track to remain eligible.

How much TAP do I earn from listening?

  • Listening to another member’s eligible track can earn 1 TAP, up to five awarded plays of the same track per day.
  • Listening to your own tracks earns 0 TAP.
  • Scrobbles that do not match exactly one published, registered TUNESHARE track earn 0 TAP. Other rules can also result in 0 TAP, including your own tracks, the daily limit, and scrobbles received after a week has been finalized.
  • Artificial or coordinated listening is not allowed. Where there is a specific reason for concern, TUNESHARE may review the activity manually and, if manipulation is confirmed, adjust TAP or membership. Automated detection and a dedicated review screen are not currently part of the service.

How do I become a ⭐STAR?

Complete one full Monday–Sunday week with at least 50 Weekly TAP. Your status is updated after that week is finalized. STAR status is permanent, but active status and track capacity continue to depend on each completed week’s TAP.

A STAR track request is not placed automatically. TUNESHARE validates the request and adds it to an administrative queue. Track requests are processed manually as soon as practical. Spotify and TUNESHARE are updated when processing is completed, and submission does not guarantee immediate placement.

How many tracks can I have in playlists?

Your finalized Weekly TAP from the previous Monday–Sunday week sets your track capacity for the current week:

Weekly TAP (TUNESHARE ACTIVITY POINTS) → Playlist Capacity

Formula: Finalized Weekly TAP from the previous Monday–Sunday week → track capacity for the current week. At 900+ finalized Weekly TAP, capacity is unlimited: the 10+ label has no upper track limit. If a later completed week falls below 900, the corresponding finite limit applies again.

What if my Weekly TAP drops?

If your new capacity is lower than the number of your currently placed tracks, TUNESHARE creates removal tasks in a stable, predictable order. An administrator then updates Spotify and completes the corresponding TUNESHARE tasks manually.

Your Lifetime TAP and permanent STAR status remain. Add, Exchange and Remove requests require ACTIVE STAR or ACTIVE MEGASTAR status and current capacity for at least one track. If you are INACTIVE or your capacity is 0, all three request forms are locked.

What is a MEGASTAR?

MEGASTAR is a permanent founding-member badge, separate from weekly active status and track capacity. Only the first 100 registered TUNESHARE accounts can receive MEGASTAR. When one of these members earns STAR by reaching 50 Weekly TAP in a completed week, they receive the MEGASTAR badge instead of the STAR badge and appear in the MEGASTARS hall of fame. This is the only difference from STAR: MEGASTAR adds no TAP or track capacity.

Do you host my music or claim any rights to it?

No. TUNESHARE only links to tracks hosted on Spotify. We never host audio files ourselves and never claim any ownership or rights over member music. Your track stays yours.

Do you use the Spotify API?

No. Spotify playlists are managed manually. Track requests are validated and queued in TUNESHARE, then processed manually as soon as practical. An administrator makes the corresponding change in Spotify and completes the request in TUNESHARE. Submission does not guarantee immediate placement.

What if someone submits music that isn’t theirs?

Track requests are restricted to eligible STAR members and checked against the member’s account, current capacity, selected playlist and Spotify track link. New placements still require manual administrator processing. If ownership or attribution is disputed, TUNESHARE may reject the request or remove the track while the issue is reviewed.
